Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility at the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado & Wyoming

The Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado & Wyoming is steadfast in our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Our mission is to serve and welcome every person affected by epilepsy, recognizing that epilepsy does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, faith, religion, or socioeconomic status.

Epilepsy Statistics: Epilepsy affects 3.4 million people in the United States, with one in 26 individuals developing epilepsy at some point in their lives. People of all races and ethnicities can encounter a journey with epilepsy, at any time or age.

Our commitment: We welcome and serve every person affected by epilepsy, striving to eliminate barriers, create inclusion, and offer meaningful support to our communities.

Diversity: We acknowledge and value differences among individuals across multiple dimensions including, but not limited to race, national or ethnic origin, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical ability, faith or religion, and socioeconomic status.

Equity: We actively work to provide opportunity and access for all people, giving special attention to the needs of those facing significant barriers and health inequities.

Inclusion: We intentionally invite the contribution and participation of all groups and individuals, embracing differences and offering respect for all people. We believe that by including diverse perspectives and experiences in our work, we are better able to achieve our mission.

Accessibility: We strive to ensure that the information, activities, programs, and services we offer, as well as the environments we operate in, are sensible, meaningful, and usable for as many people as possible, including those with disabilities.

Cultural Sensitivity: Recognizing the importance of cultural diversity, we are committed to acknowledging differences in our community. We celebrate the unique traditions, perspectives, and contributions that each culture offers, and strive to create an environment where individuals from all cultural backgrounds feel valued, understood, and respected.

Collaboration and Action: In pursuit of our commitment, we collaborate with the community, forging partnerships with organizations that share our values. We actively engage in initiatives and programs that promote epilepsy awareness, education, and support.

Our Vision: Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility is integral to ensuring that all people with epilepsy have the opportunity to live their lives to their fullest potential. Together, we strive for a world where the challenges of epilepsy are met with understanding, empathy, and a collective commitment to a better future.
